Poetry – The Future of America by Sam Patterson
The future of America is
bacteria wrapped in circuit imprinted
Mylar, injected into everything so
we are the superprocessor the
world moves to one collective
will, voting becomes an invisible
process in which we all
strive for stillness. In the
future we will say I
am the good and the evil.
We will stop drawing lines.
We will stop manufacturing missiles.
We will stop training drills.
We will stop arming civilians.
We will no longer traffic
in this dark commodity; no
longer will we believe in
peace through victory. No longer
will we feel at ease
with our own bumper stickers
or faded, torn antenna flags.
